A former Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek is running for Minnesota governor.

State of Play: The number of candidates who are vying to challenge DFL Gov. Tim Walz in November is vast and unsettling.
A GOP endorsement, scheduled to be completed in May, is likely to decide who the nominee will be.
What is he saying? Stanek spoke about his work in law enforcement as well as his concerns regarding the issue of crime in his announcement clip.
"Today the streets of our city are filled with violence and our residents require help more than ever before," he added. "That means my work isn't over."
Bio, brief: Stanek, a former Minneapolis police officer, was a member of the Minnesota House from 1995 to 2003. He also served as sheriff for the largest county in the state for three terms beginning in 2007.
In the interim, he was brief time as the state's public security commissioner. He quit the post following an incident in 1989 where he confessed to using racial insults while serving as an officer for the police and was exposed.
